Several Swedish companies are ready to produce the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus Sputnik V, the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet writes.
Lars Hammarstrom, head of the department of the Innovation Agency Vinnova, clarified that at the moment the capacities of local companies are not sharpened for large-scale production, but they allow you to organize the production of certain volumes of the drug.
«We are not necessarily talking about the construction of a large plant, but only about trying to develop the opportunities < … > that are already available,» he said.
Professor and vaccine expert at the Karolinska Institute Ali Mirazimi, in turn, noted that he considers it appropriate to use all available vaccines. Nevertheless, he is confident that the production of Sputnik V at European enterprises will speed up and simplify the quality control of the drug.
On Monday, the Swedish vaccination coordinator, Richard Bergstrom, said the country could receive the Russian vaccine as early as June. He added that he had already negotiated the terms of supply.
Sputnik V was approved in 52 countries with a total population of over 1.4 billion people. According to the number of approvals received by state regulators, the Russian drug ranks second in the world.
