Until recently, the 0.30 Cx indicator was considered excellent, but in recent years the situation has also changed dramatically. And now the most aerodynamic machines on the planet are achieving the best results. Here are eight of the models with the best coefficient of resistance.

8th place-Volkswagen Golf VII. Cx-0.29.

The pioneer of the so-called «Golf class» in its current 7th generation offers a Cx of 0.29. The Golf is compared to the 2012 BMW 323i SE (E46) or BMW 650i Gran Coupe. The sporty Ferrari 456 GT (1993), Nissan 350Z (2003) and Porsche 911 Carrera S (991) and Jaguar XFR (both since 2012) offer the same metric. For comparison, the coefficient of Aston Martin is 0.36. Why is the Golf hatchback in this rating? Because it is more common and cheaper than premium sedans and sports cars.

7th place Mercedes-Benz CL500 (C215). Cx-0.28.

The Mercedes-Benz CL500 (C2015) premiered in Geneva in 1999. The model replaced the C140, thanks to lighter materials in the structure and more compact units, the car became smaller in size, but the interior space increased. This led to a decrease in the CX coefficient. As a result, the model’s aerodynamics were better than those of the Alfa Romeo Brera (0.34).

The achievement of Mercedes was repeated 4 years later by the Chevrolet Corvette, as well as the Citroen C4 VTS. Only in 2009, Audi showed the S4 version with the same aerodynamic drag. However, Mercedes was the first to enter this rating.

6th place-Kia Optima. Cx — 0,27.

Designers of the Korean Kia Optima business season have achieved significant success with the fourth generation of the model. The Optima even has a hybrid version that got a different bumper, new wheels and a grille with active blinds. In this version, the CX coefficient is reduced to 0.24.

As for the standard model, the result is 0.27. The same can be said for the Lexus LS400, Mercedes-Benz E320 (W210, second generation) and Mercedes-Benz S500 (R231, sixth generation) and 600L (W221, fifth generation). The Korean sedan, however, is cheaper and ranks sixth. There’s also a Skoda Rapid rollback of 0.275.

5th place-Mazda 3. Cx-0.26.

The popular Japanese model has the same drag coefficient as the BMW i8 and Nissan GT-R. However, the Mazda 3 is not a sports car, and its aerodynamic characteristics are also excellent in fuel economy. Declared fuel economy by the manufacturer with a 1.5-liter 120-horsepower engine. it is 5.8 l / 100 km. However, we should point out that the Cx 0.26 only has a Mazda 3 sedan, while the hatchback has it 0.30.

4th place-Toyota Prius. Cx — 0,24.

The most famous and most popular hybrid on the planet among customers. The fourth generation of the model has already appeared on the market, which after the latest modifications by Toyota engineers reached an impressive 0.24. This is 0.02 better than the previous-generation hybrid car.

3rd place-Mercedes-Benz CLA BlueEFFICIENCY. Cx-0.22.

When developing the CLA model, which debuted in 2013, Mercedes paid great attention to aerodynamic testing in tunnels. Everything is as clean as possible, and even the wheels of the model have been redesigned to improve dynamics. The exhaust system has also been modified to allow air flow to pass under the car even more easily. The end result is a Cx of 0.22.

2nd place-Tesla Model 3. Cx-0.21.

For electric vehicles, the CX coefficient is one of the most important indicators. This depends on the power consumption for both acceleration and standard driving. In the basic version, the Model 3 can travel about 350 km, accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 6 seconds. All this is achieved thanks to excellent aerodynamics.

1st place-Volkswagen XL1. Cx-0.19.

The Germans built this car in 2013, and although it does not look like the standard models that we see on the streets, it still entered mass production. 250 pieces were made from XL1. The car’s body looks like a drop, the rear fenders are covered, and cameras are installed instead of exterior mirrors. Tires are like a Bicycle. All of this makes the VW XL1 the most aerodynamic car in the series (nothing that the series is quite small).
